During our 5-day trip through Guatemala, 3 days in the Altiplano, we will be able to visit the main attractions of the country.
This is an excellent plan to combine it with extensions from Guatemala such as: Izabal or Petén and neighboring countries such as: Mexico, Honduras, Costa Rica or visit the Caribbean beaches

Itinerary

Day 01: Arrive Guatemala City
Transfer from Airport to Hotel.
Overnight at hotel.

Day 02: Guatemala – Chichicastenago – Lago Atitlán
Breakfast. We will leave for the Guatemalan highlands with destination to the town of Chichicastenango, where we will visit one of the most famous indigenous markets throughout Latin America. This day we will have a visit Experiential, where we will perform with local women a corn workshop, the staple food of Guatemala. Behind the visit we will continue towards Lake Atitlán, from which Huxley said to be the most beautiful in the world. Accommodation.

Day 03: Lago Atitlán – San Juan La Laguna – Santiago Atitlán – Lago Atitlán
Breakfast. Today we will take a boat to visit two towns of the twelve that surround this beautiful lake. We will know the Tzutuhil town of San Juan La Laguna characterized by the harmony in which its inhabitants coexist with nature and culture. We will continue towards Santiago Atitlán, a town inhabited by indigenous Tzutuhiles who they live on fishing and crafts, although they are better known as worshipers of a Mayan-Catholic deity they call Maximón.

Day 04: Lago Atitlán – Iximché – La Antigua
Breakfast. We will leave for the city of La Antigua Guatemala. On the way, we will visit the archaeological site of Iximché, ancient Mayan capital of the Cakchiquel kingdom. To our arrival in La Antigua, visit of this declared colonial city World Heritage Site, we will know the Cathedral, Church La Merced, the Central Plaza and its main streets and monuments.

Day 05: Transfer out Airport or Bus Station in Guatemala City
Transfer Hotel to Guatemala City Airport for flight back to home.

Day 01: Guatemala City
Welcome to Guatemala City! The largest city of Central America, it absorbed the trends of the new time, mixing them with traditional Latin American flavors. Arrive at any time and welcome meeting and transfer to hotel.

Day 02: Guatemala City – Quirigua
After a morning walking tour in Guatemala City, leave towards Quirigua (UNESCO) – one of the most ancient Mayan cities in the world that contain some outstanding 8th-century monuments and impressive series of carved stelae and sculpted calendars. Accommodation in a nearby hotel
Overnight at hotel.

Day 03: Quirigua Ruins – Castle of San Felipe de Lara – Finca el Paraiso
After a guided visit to Quirigua Ruins go to Castle of San Felipe de Lara (both – UNESCO) that was built in 1652 to keep pirates from looting the villages and commercial caravans of Izabal. Then move to Finca el Paraiso and enjoy its natural hot waterfalls. Accommodation in a nearby hotel.

Activities: guided visits to Quirigua Ruins and Castle of San Felipe de Lara; visit to Finca el Paraiso hot waterfalls.

Day 04: Finca el Paraiso – Flores
After breakfast and morning bath in the waterfalls, continue to Flores – a picturesque town on the island on Lago Petén Itzá, a base for exploring El Petén area and a stunning spot to recharge your energy. Check-in, walking tour around the town, free time to explore the area.
Activities: walking tour in Flores. Overnight at hotel.

Day 05: Flores – Tikal – Lanquin
In the morning, after breakfast, go to Tikal (UNESCO) – one of the major sites of the Mayan civilization that lies in the middle of the jungle, surrounded by lush vegetation. In the afternoon, after optional lunch, continue to Lanquin – a pretty village located in the deep valleys between the mountains, a perfect base to explore the wonderful cave system just out of town and as a jumping-off point for visiting the natural rock pools at Semuc Champey. Upon arrival: check-in, orientation walk, free time to explore the area.
Activities: guided visit to Tikal; orientation walk in Lanquin.

Day 06: Lanquin – Semuc Champey – Uspantán
In the morning choose whether to sleep, explore nearby Lanquin Caves, swim in Salto del Cabro waterfalls or tube down the Lanquin River. Afterward, take one of the most picturesque roads in Guatemala that will bring you to Uspantán – a quiet and charming town in a stunning setting of a fertile valley at the base of green forested mountains. Accommodation, orientation walk, optional dinner & get-together.

Day 07: Uspantan – San Jorge La Laguna
In the morning continue to San Jorge La Laguna – a peaceful Maya village in the hills next to Lake Atitlán.

Activities: lakeshore hike & local villages tour in the Lake Atitlán area.

Day 8: San Jorge La Laguna – Pacaya Volcano – Antigua Guatemala
In the morning, after breakfast, go to Pacaya Volcano – an active complex volcano of 2,552 meters that has erupted at least 23 times since the Spanish arrival to Guatemala. After an easy hike to the summit, continue to Antigua Guatemala (UNESCO) – a city in the central highlands famous for its well-preserved Spanish Baroque influenced architecture as well as a number of spectacular ruins of colonial churches. Take an orientation walk with the rest of the group or explore this beautiful city by yourself.
Activities: Pacaya Volcano hike; walking tour in Antigua Guatemala.

Day 9: Antigua Guatemala – Guatemala City
Last day of our trip – depart at any time by a private taxi/group shuttle directly to the airport (40 km).
