Day 01: Arrive Taipei
On arrival at Taoyuan International airport you will be met and transferred to the hotel. Check into the hotel and rest of the day is at leisure. Overnight at the hotel in Taipei.

Day 02: Taipei – Sun Moon Lake
Today after breakfast, we will drive to Sun Moon Lake which is located in the middle of Taiwan and situated 762 meters above sea level in the lofty mountains of Central Taiwan. Tour will stop at the famous Wenwu Temple, also known as Literature- Warrior Temple, dedicated to Confucius as Master of Pen and to Kuan Ti as Master of Sword, Holy Monk Shrine and Ci En Pagoda. After touring round Sun Moon Lake, check in hotel. Enjoy natural hot spring at the Fleur de Chine Hotel, Sun Moon Lake. You can also enjoy the walking trails, biking, hiking or boating at the lake. Overnight at the hotel in Sun Moon Lake.

Day 03: Sun Moon Lake – Foguangshan Monastery – Kaohsiung
This morning pass by the lovely small and old Jiji Railway Station, drive to Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Monastery, the most famous Buddhist sacred place of southern Taiwan. Here you will learn about Buddhism during the monastery walking tour to visit “Buddha Memorial Centre” and communicate with some of the monks, nuns during the visit, there will be opportunity to taste Buddhist vegetarian lunch (at your own cost). Continuously, drive to Kaohsiung City, which is the second largest city of Taiwan. The tour will take you to Love River and Liuhe Night Market. Overnight at the hotel in Kaohsiung.

Day 04: Kaohsiung – Kenting – Zhiben Hot Springs
Proceed to Kenting National Park, located at Taiwan’s southern tip and the 37 miles of coral- rimmed shoreline along three sides of the park provide its main attractions. Stops will be made at Eluanbi light house, Maobitou coastal scenic area and Longpan Park. Continuously we will drive to Taitung via Southern Link Highway. Enjoy natural hot spring at Hotel Royal Chihpen. Overnight at the hotel in Taitung.

Day 05:Taitung – East Coast National Scenic Area – Taroko
Today enjoy an exciting East Coast Tour. The East Coast National Scenic Area, known as “Taiwan’s last unspoiled land”, stretches 170 kms down the east coast of the island. Weathering, erosion, and accumulation have produced a wide range of landforms here. Stop at Xiaoyeliu, Sanxiantai, Shitiping (Stone Steps), marble factory and showroom. Later in the afternoon, proceed to Hualien for overnight stay at Taroko National Park. Overnight at the hotel in Taroko.

Day 06: Taroko National Park – Taipei
Enjoy a visit Tarako National Park. Tarako Gorge is an exceptionally beautiful, narrow raving created by the Liwu river which has cut deep into the mountains of solid marble. A road carved into sheer walls of rock rewinding its way past forested peaks and cliffs towering thousands of feet above it, while hundreds of feet below a river roars past gigantic marble boulders. Passing by Tunnel of Nine Turns, Ci Mu Bridge, stop at Swallow Grotto, Changchun Temple (Eternal Spring Shrine). Later return back to Taipei enroute stopping at Cingshui Cliff, drive through Syue-Shan Long Tunnel (12.9 Kms). Overnight at the hotel in Taipei

Day 07: Depart Taipei

Day 01: Taipei Bicycle & Walking Tour
Welcome to Taiwan! Your journey starts in bustling Taipei, where you’ll meet your guide at your hotel for a personalized tour of the city. You’ll start by riding the MRT to Longshan Temple, then continue on your own power with a bike ride around Daan Park. Other stops will include Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, Yongkang Street, and another MRT trip to the Taipei 101 skyscraper, formerly the tallest building in the world.

Day 02: Taipei to Taroko Gorge
Venture outside of the city with a train ride out to Hualien, where you’ll catch a transfer to Taroko Gorge National Park. While the park access may change depending on the time of year and weather conditions, its namesake marble gorge is always spectacular. Pay a visit to the Eternal Spring Shrine, seated atop the Changchun Falls; Swallow Grotto trail, named for its population of the petite nesting birds and known for its views into the gorge; and the Baiyang trail, where you can hike through tunnels and past rushing waterfalls.

Day 03: Bike the East Rift Valley
Pick up a bicycle at the Hualien train station to make your way from Jian to Ruisui, a roughly 44-mile (70 km) ride. You’ll enjoy views along the East Rift Valley and rice paddies as you ride, then meet your transfer in Ruisui to head Yuli town with your luggage.

Day 04: Bike the Pacific Coast
Get back in the saddle today to ride from Yuli to Chenggong via Antong Mountain. The route will take you along the coast, with views of the Pacific and a stop at the Sansiantai Scenic Area and its intricate Dragon Bridge before you transfer to Taitung City for the evening.

Day 05: Taitung to Kenting
Give your legs a break with a scenic drive along the sea coast on the South Link highway. You’ll stop at Millennium Dawn Memorial Park in the coastal town of Taimali, then keep going to lounge on the beach once you arrive at your destination in Kenting. Head to the Kenting night market for snacking and shopping once the sun goes down.

Day 06: Explore Kenting
Your agenda for today is up to you as you explore Kenting. Pay a visit to the Chuanfan Rock, known for inspiring comparisons to a sailboat setting out, and Eluanbi Lighthouse as you while away the day. Once it gets dark, you can visit the Chuhuo Natural Fire, where natural gas coming up from the ground seems to spontaneously ignite, and stargaze at Longpan Park.

Day 07: Kenting to Taipei
Get in one more day of exploring, starting with a transfer from Kenting to Kaohsiung. You’ll visit Cijin island to enjoy its famous fresh seafood, then return to the mainland to see Lotus Pond and the Spring and Autumn Pavilions on its shores before you take the HSR train back to Taipei. On arrival transfer to hotel. Overnigt at hotel.

Day 08: Depart Taipei
Transfer to airport for flight back to home.

Day 02:Taipei – Fusing
We pick you up from your Taipei hotel in the morning and drive outside the busy city to start our ride to Fusing. We will just have a short ride, but it will start at sea level and end at about 450 m. It will be a gentle start through undulating hills to get the legs warmed up before we start the serious climbing. You’ll be riding through thick forest, and the thick moss and huge ferns that line the narrow road give the whole place a Jurassic aura.

Day 03: Fusing – Wuling Farm
The second day, and first big climbing day begins from the hotel. 35 undulating kilometers warm up to one of the first steep sections and the first peak of the day at 60 kilometers. You’ll make a sharp descent down to the base of the plateau before the long climb begins to the top of Shih Yin Pass, nearly 2,000 meters above sea level. Admire the dense forest, changing from cedar to bamboo along the way, and breathe in the fresh air- you’re going to need it!

Day 04: Wuling Farm – Lu Shan Hot Spring
We start the day by continuing up the north cross island highway to Li Shan, a town famous for its mountain fruit. After 25 km, the long climb begins as we make our way to the day’s peak, at over 3,000 meters in one of the most remote areas of the island. Following our climb, we have a long descent through the remote farms in the high mountains.

Day 05: Lu Shan – Taroko Gorge
One of the highlights of the trip, the climb starts immediately, and you’ll make an early start to ride the 32 kilometers and 2,175 meters up to Hehuanshan Pass, the highest road in East Asia at 3,275 m. A car transport and options to start at different points along the way on the way up are available. Once at the top, the rewards come one after the other: cold drinks and snacks, fabulous scenery for memorable photos, and an exhilarating ride down into Taroko National Park and the world-famous Taroko Gorge. This will be one ride you will never forget as we drop some 3,270 m, riding through endless tunnels and a multitude of eco zones. The last 20 km of Taroko Gorge is a mind-blowing ride through marbled walled passageways that twist and turn as the gorge rises some 500-1,100 m above!

Day 06: Taroko National Park Rest Day
We take a break from the bikes and spend the day hiking in Taroko Gorge. We will visit Siangde Temple that has a giant statue of Guanyin and a pagoda that provides views of the valley from the top and walk the Zhui Lu Ancient Trail, which takes you several hundred metres above the gorge for a breathtaking cliff-wak and spectacular views of the gorge below. There are many other hikes to choose from, and we’ll decide which ones are best to do based on the group’s interests.

Day 07: Taroko Gorge – An Tong Hot Spring
From Taroko Gorge, we ride out onto the east coast and into the superb East Rift Valley. We cycle on an undulating route that hugs the foothills and takes us through numerous aboriginal villages. After cycling through this fer-tile valley, we overnight at yet another wonderful hot spring resort!

Day 08: Yu Li – Jhihben Hot Springs
We ride from our hotel south and then up into the Badlands area and enjoy splendid views from our deserted mountain road. We eventually connect with the Luye backroads and enjoy a wonderful ride through the outskirts of the port town of Taitung and down to the lush Jhihben River Valley, where the hot springs are between 75-96 degrees Celsius.

Day 09: Jhihben Hot Springs – Kenting National Park
Today’s ride takes us over the top of Capricorn Pass and down to the white sand beaches of Kenting. Starting with a 50-km ride down the south-east coast, we make our first crossing of the island from east to west. This is the route taken by most riders travelling around the island. As we ride over the southern mountains, we descend down to the west coast and around the Kenting peninsula and overnight at Bai Sha Wan beach, famous for being a setting in the movie “Life of Pi.”

Day 10: Kenting – Wutai Aborigine Village
Starting early in the morning from our guest house, we explore the southern part of Taiwan, which has the most dramatic coast line. We’ll be hugging the coast and seeing the island’s best beaches. Then it’s a 2 hour transfer from the coast to the mountain area, to navigate around busy roads. After lunch, we start climbing into the mountains to the village of Wu Tai, famous for its stone house architecture. On the road up to the village, we cross the highest bridge in Taiwan, approximately 100 m above the river. We finish the day with a 17-kilomtre climb to our destination.

Day 11: Wutai Aborigine Village – Kaohsiung
On the last ride of the tour, we leave behind our mountain village and head towards the vibrant southern city of Kaohsiung. We’ll lose elevation, cruising downward out of the peaks that have defined our journey through Taiwan. Fertile farmland lines the mountainous slopes along our ride, and we’ll stop for lunch in on one of the many indigenous villages for some traditional aborigine food. Only a few small climbs remain, until we reach the Kaoping River on the very outer limits of Kaohsiung city. The day doesn’t end here however, we have one more surprise in store, the fantastic Fo Guang Shan Monastery. Multi-level pagodas and endless gilded Buddha statues line the pathways of this incredible Buddhist establishment. Following a wide-eyed wander through the monastery, we’ll transfer to our hotel in the city for the evening, with plenty of time to disassemble bikes, pack, and rest up for the next day of onward travel.

Day 12: Kaohsiung / Taipei
Transfer to Kaohsiung, On arrival transfer to hotel. Overnight at hotel.

Day 13: Departure
Transfer to airport for flight back to home.

Day 02: Taipei
Enjoy a scenic excursion to the northern coast stopping at Yehliu Geo Park before arriving at Jiufen, a former gold-mining centre. Take a walking tour in this quaint mountain town adorned with traditional teahouses and street food stalls. Continue on with stops at the Golden Waterfall and the Bay of Two Colours to Shifen Village, where we explore the winding laneways and walk to the waterfall. Return to Taipei this evening.
Yehliu GeoPark is often referenced to having outer-space geology, and is considered the most “Mars-like” environment on Earth. The rock formations are fascinating, including the world famous “Queen’s Head” and the wonders of marine erosion including “Ice Cream Rock”, ”Bee Hive Rock”,” Ginger Rock” and “Candle Stick Rock”.

During World War II, Jiufen Village housed a Japanese prisoner of war camp where captured Allied Force soldiers (mostly British) were forced to work in the gold mines.

Day 03: Taipei/Tainan
Catch the high speed train to Tainan. Enjoy a walk in the old city and visit Chikan Tower, Confucius Temple, and Anping Fort. In the evening, visit the famous night market.
Taiwan High Speed Rail (also known as HSR) is a high-speed rail line of approximately 345KM in length running along the west coast from Taipei Main Station in the north to Kaohsiung in the south. The line opened in 2007, using trains with a top speed of 300KM/H covering the journey in as short as 96 minutes. The HSR is commonly referred to as Gaotie, and is the preferred method of transit to cross the island due to its simplicity and speed.

Tainan is the oldest city on the island established in 1661, when the Ming loyalist Cheng Cheng Kung (known as Koxinga) drove the Dutch from Taiwan. After many mainland Chinese immigrants arrived, helping the young city to grow.

Day 04: Tainan/Sun Moon Lake
Continue exploring Tainan the first capital city of Taiwan with a walking tour through the Anping historic district. Wander the crooked lanes of the old town past traditional houses and stop at the Tree House and Anping Fort. Later, head to the Sun Moon Lake area and visit Wen Wu Temple.

Day 05: Sun Moon Lake
Explore Sun Moon Lake, visit the Xuan Zhang Shrine and Tse En Pagoda. Afterwards, hop on a bicycle and ride around the lake to take in stunning views, then enjoy a hike on the Mt. Maolan trail. Later visit the Shueishe Wharf area.
Sun Moon Lake is Taiwan’s largest lake, located in the mountains of Nantou. Its name is inspired by the stunning natural beauty of the area and the shapes of the lake where on the east side the lake is round like the sun, while the west side is long and narrow, like a crescent moon.

The aboriginal Thao tribe lives around the lake, and are the proprietors of many local businesses. At the centre of the lake is Lalu Island, which is reserved for aboriginal religious practices, and closed to the public.

Day 06: Sun Moon Lake / Taroko (Hualien)
Set out on a scenic drive with sweeping views of “Taiwan Alps”. Arrive in Hualien, gateway to Taroko national park.
Enjoy a scenic drive, traveling from Sun Moon Lake (middle Taiwan) to Taroko (Hualien) via the central cross Island highway. It’s considered the most beautiful highway in Taiwan. Along the way you’ll see the“Taiwan Alpine” soaring cliffs, and gorges.

Day 07: Hualien/Taroko National Park
Spend the day exploring Taroko National Park. Visit the Swallow Grotto, Eternal Spring Shrine, and Taroko Gorge Gateway.

Day 08: Hualien/Yilan
Enjoy a stunning drive along Qingshui Cliff then visit Qixing lake and the Hualien railway cultural park. Later, catch the local train to the lively metropolis of Yilan. Famed for its black sand beach, waterfalls, and mountains, take free time to explore the beautiful scenery, excellent nightlife, and delicious food.

Day 09: Yilan/Taipei
Morning visit to the Wufenchi Waterfall and a tea farm. After, stop at the National Center for Traditional Arts for lunch and some free time. Later back to Taipei. On arrival transfer to hotel.

Day 10: Depart Taipei.
Depart any time. Transfer to airport for flight back to home.

Day 02: Taipei
Explore Taipei this morning by foot and via the city’s excellent metro system. Begin with a visit to Sweet Potato Mama, a social enterprise managed by the Genesis Social Welfare Foundation and your introduction to the wild popularity of the root-vegetable-cum-street-snack in Taiwan. Join the local women who have started their own street food businesses, learn how to prepare the spuds and sell them to hungry locals. Next, stroll through Dihua Street to get a sense of Taipei’s merchant past as well as see how young entrepreneurs are revitalising the area. Continue to the Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall, an impressive dedication to the former president of the Republic of China. Enjoy free time for the rest of the day and night. Perhaps check out the Shilin Night Market.

Day 03: Hualien
Leave Taipei behind today and take the train to Hualien (approximately 2–3 hours), best known for its beautiful natural surrounds like the rift valley plain and a rocky seashore overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Visit the Danong Dafu Forest Park, 11 hectares of reforested ground with spectacular views and plenty of birdlife. The diligent reforestation efforts have led to the reappearance of a number of species. In the evening, explore the night markets of Hualien. Some local specialties are coffin bread (fluffy French toast with fillings), ‘exploding’ chicken rolls, spring onion pancakes and oyster omelettes. Hualien has the largest indigenous population in Taiwan, so you can also find specialties favoured by some of Taiwan’s original inhabitants like bamboo rice, wild bore, birds nest fern and flying fish. You certainly won’t go hungry here!

Day 04: Hualien
Visit the Qingshui Cliff, a long stretch of coast that drops almost vertically into the sea. Continue to Taroko National Park, named after the epic Taroko Gorge, which you’ll stop to see before heading further into the park. Set out along the Shakadang Trail, which follows an aqua stream to a Truku village (approximately 4 hours return if you finish the whole trail). Entry to the village isn’t permitted, but there is sometimes a small market outside selling indigenous foods and handicrafts. If you’ve got energy leftover after your return. There may be time to explore one of the park’s other trails. Your leader can give you advice on the one that’s right for you. Return to Hualien for some free time in the evening. Maybe grab a foot reflexology massage after the hard walk today.

Day 05: Yilan
Travel to Yilan. On arrival, visit a spring onion farm to see how one of Taiwan’s favourite ingredients is grown. Don some gum boots and get grubby in the fields to pick some produce and then learn how to cook them into the beloved Taiwanese snack pancakes. Continue to the King Car Distillery, the island’s only whisky producer, for a tour and tasting of their award-winning Kavalan single malts. The final stop today is the local hot springs, so make sure you have your swimsuit handy, so you don’t miss out on a soak. Your evening is free to explore to relax at your hotel in Yilan.

Day 06: Turtle Island – Jiufen – Taipei
Head out on the water this morning on a cruise around Gueishan (Turtle) Island (approximately 3 hours). From March to September it’s possible to spot pods dolphins and even the odd whale during the boat tour. Back on land, drive to the former gold mining centre of Jiufen, said to be the inspiration for the town in the film Spirited Away. Explore the Old Town at your leisure, perhaps strolling around the beautiful old buildings lining the hillsides, relaxing with a cup of tea at a 100-year-old teahouse or visit the quirky Kite Museum. Some specialty snacks you should seek out while you’re in town are fish balls, molasses cakes and taro balls. Return to Taipei tonight.

Day 07: Sun Moon Lake
Leave Taipei behind today and travel approximately 3 hours by private bus to Sun Moon Lake, perhaps the most iconic destination in Taiwan. The only natural lake in Taiwan is so named for the shapes it’s outline forms. Take a walk through the forested foothills of the mountains around the lake along the Ci’en Pagoda Trail (around 1 hour). The end of the trail offers views over the lake, as well as the chance to climb to the top of the eponymous, 46-metre-high pagoda that marks the end of the trail. Tonight, relax in your guesthouse in Puli.

Day 08: Puli – Sun Moon Lake
After breakfast this morning, embark on a kayaking trip on the serene waters of Sun Moon Lake. Back on land, continue to the Chung Tai Chan Monastery in Puli. Though it was built just 20 years ago, the unique combination of Chinese and Western architectural styles makes it an impressive sight. Take a guided tour with one of the resident nuns. Continue by private vehicle to the Hugosum Tea Farm for insight into the production of Taiwan’s beloved black tea. You will also have the opportunity to roll your own leaves, which will then be dried and packaged on site for you to take a taste of Taiwan home with you. Spend another night in the Puli guesthouse tonight.

Day 09: Fangyuan – Taichung
Today, head to the flat and fertile land of Changhua County, sometimes known as the ‘breadbasket’ of Taiwan. Visit Longshan Temple and explore the beautiful gardens on site. Continue to the fishing village of Fangyuan, where you will have the chance to go oyster picking and discover water birds, fiddler crabs and mudskippers. There will also be the chance to sample local seafood like clams, crabs and oysters. In the afternoon, travel to Taichung. Your accommodation this evening is close to the Fenchia Night Market.

Day 10: Taipei
Before returning to Taipei, stop at the Rainbow Village and learn about the beautiful story behind the incredible murals that cover every inch of the town. If you are lucky, you may just catch the artist Huang Yung-Fu (96-years-old and counting!) sitting outside his house and enjoying some sunshine. Return to Taipei from Taichung, arriving around midday. After checking into the hotel, spend the afternoon at the National Palace Museum, home to the world’s largest collection of Chinese art. Your evening is free.

Day 11: Depart Taipei
Your trip comes to an end after breakfast this morning. There are no activities planned for the day, and you’re free to leave the hotel at any time after check out.
