Tunisia tour reveals a bounteous country that has played a highly significant role in world history. Home to a civilization that rivalled the Roman Empire, Carthage was eventually conquered and resettled into a sprawling metropolis. The influence of the Roman Empire still lingers in the many temples and theatres that are still standing. The world as it once was shines through smaller details, such as visible ridges carved into stone streets where chariot wheels made their mark. It is no wonder that this land held such appeal for so powerful an empire; the beautiful lakes and hills make for a beautiful oasis.

Day 01: Arrive in Tunis
Arrival in Tunis.Tunis, the capital of the country, is a bustling metropolis and the home of one-sixth of the country’s population. Situated in the Gulf of Tunis on the Mediterranean Sea, the modern city extends along the coastal plains and to the surrounding hills. It is a city of many contrasts, with its modern office buildings, shopping malls and European cafes, the colonial French style of the Ville Nouvelle, and the dynamic Arab souks of Tunis’ old Medina. Overnight in Tunis.

Day 02: Tunis: The Medina, Bardo Museum, Sidi Bou Said & Carthage
We begin the day with a walking tour through the old medina of Tunis, its narrow lanes crowded with mosques, tombs and palaces. This was Tunis until the arrival of the French in the late 19th century, who subsequently built their quarters outside of the “Sea Gate” — now the Ville Nouvelle. En route we will see the Great Mosque of Tunis, Jemaa Zitouna, and the elegant Place du Gouvernement. We then visit the Bardo Museum, recently re-opened after extensive renovations. The Bardo houses the largest and finest collection of ancient mosaics in the world. These mosaics were discovered in the wealthiest of Roman villas in the many ancient cities found in Tunisia. Rich patrons commissioned a vast array of subjects and themes, from scenes of gods and goddesses, daily life (hunting, fishing, harvesting), the zodiac, seasons, amphitheatre games. From their exquisite details, we can understand why the North African school of mosaicists was the finest in the ancient world, and whose masterpieces can be found throughout the Mediterranean. As well, there are also fine sculpture galleries, exhibits of Punic, early Christian and Islamic artefacts, and an exhibition of magnificent bronzes from the 1st BC Mahdia shipwreck. We then head to Sidi Bou Said, a charming hilltop village famous for its beautifully decorated blue and white architecture. Visited by the likes of Cervantes, Simone de Beaauvouir and Jean Foucault, Sidi Bou Said made an indelible impression on the works of Paul Klee, August Macke and Louis Moilliet who stayed here together in 1914. You will have some free time for lunch and to explore this beautiful village overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.We continue to Carthage – the legendary city of Queen Dido and Hannibal. We will begin with a visit to the ancient Punic cemetery — the Tophet, or sanctuary to Baal and Tanit. Roman propaganda, hostile to their enemy, stated that the Carthaginians ritually sacrificed their children here to the gods. Our next stop is the Punic ports, once the foundation of Carthage’s prosperity. Here we see the remains of what was once an sophisticated naval harbour, complete with ship sheds for dry-docking their warships, and a elaborate merchant harbor, for their fleets of cargo ships which engaged in trade throughout the Mediterranean. From here we visit Byrsa hill — the ancient acropolis and the first area to be settled by the Phoenicians. Crowning the hill is the 19th century Cathedral of St. Louis and the Carthage museum with finds excavated from the city. Our final stop is the Antonine Baths — the monumental public baths of the city. In the 2nd century AD, these were the largest baths in North Africa and the 3rd largest in the Roman world. Overnight in Tunis.

Day 03: Tunis – Bulla Regia & Dougga – Tunis
We leave Tunis early this morning for Bulla Regia. This ancient site is famous for its unique subterranean villas, which belonged to the wealthiest of its inhabitants; we descend to see these luxurious villas and their splendid floor mosaics, still in situ. Later we continue to Dougga, the best-preserved Roman city in Tunisia and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The monumental Capitolium temple stands in the city’s Forum, with a breathtaking view over the green rolling hills and plains below. The theaters, gymnasia, baths, shops, stone paved streets and lavish villas are all testimony to the golden age this North African city enjoyed during the Roman era. Overnight in Tunis.

Day 04: Tunis – Kairouan: City Touring
This morning we head to Kairouan, travelling through the fertile valleys and rolling hills of the North. Since antiquity to the present, Tunisia is still referred to by other Maghreb countries by the epithet, “Tunisia the Green.” This area is a favorite haven for storks, who build their nest on top of telephone towers, minarets and rooftops. We head toward into the Sahel, the transitional barren region between the fertile north and the Sahara desert to the south. The Holy City of Kairouan is not only the spiritual center of Tunisia, it is the first Islamic city to be established in North Africa, and the 4th oldest Muslim city outside of Arabia. Founded as the capital of the region in 670 AD by the Arab general Oqba ibn Nafi, Kairouan soon acquired magnificent ramparts, mosques, palaces and hammams. Our first stop is the Aghlabid basins, enormous artificial reservoirs constructed in the 9th century to store water for Kairouan, as part of a monumental system in which water was brought by aqueducts to the city from 36km away. We visit the Great Mosque of Kairouan, the oldest, largest and most important mosque in Tunisia. The lowest story of the towering minaret is thought to date to 730 AD, one century earlier than the structure of the present mosque. Inside we will see the colonnaded courtyard with its ancient wellheads and sundials, and the forest of columns of the prayer sanctuary. The hundreds of columns all differ from one another, in marble types, size, shape and capital designs, since most were taken from ancient Roman sites and reused in the mosque’s construction. Our final stop before leaving Kairouan is the Mausoleum of Sidi Sahab, also known as the Mosque of the Barber. We finish our day with a walking tour of old medina of Kairouan — the entire medina is protected by UNESCO. Meandering through the lanes, we will stop to admire the beautiful traditional doors and architectural styles, the main monuments, markets, pastry shops and traditional workshops where weavers (men) still create textiles on hand looms. Overnight in Kairouan.

Day 05: Kairouan – Sbeitla – Tozeur
We continue to the spectacular Roman city of Sufeitula — modern Sbeitla. The Roman civic center is incredibly photogenic, due to the excellent state of preservation its three monumental temples dedicated to Juno, Jupiter and Minerva towering over the Forum. Sbeitla, like other North African cities, prospered in the 2nd and 3rd centuries AD under the Pax Romana. Upon entering the site, we will see olive press — one of many in the city, since the inhabitants here became extremely wealthy from the trade of olives and olive oil. After visiting the forum and its temples, we will walk through Sbeitla’s stone paved streets to see the public baths, the theater, and numerous Christian basilicas with their elaborate baptisteries covered in colourful mosaics.Heading south, we arrive in the late afternoon at the fascinating oasis town of Tozeur. In medieval times, Tozeur was an important cultural and market center, due to its strategic location on the caravan routes. Merchants from North and West Africa gathered in this thriving oasis, trade such goods as wool, dates, gold, ivory, salt and slaves. Some of the finest dates of the world are grown in the region, the deglat nour or “finger of light”. Medieval accounts state that over 1,000 camels used to leave here per day, laden only with dates! Overnight in Tozeur.

Day 06: Tozeur – Douz – Matmata – Djerba
This morning while in the vicinity of Tozeur, we will visit the palmerie to view the various crops being grown and to absorb the oasis atmosphere. We then continue eastwards across Chott El Jerid, Tunisia’s largest salt lake, extending over 5,000km2. The chott lies 30m below sea level, and is a remnant from over 1.5 million years ago when the area was flooded by the sea. Water on the surface of the salt floor reflects strange hues of pink and yellow, and the refraction of light on this depression often creates mirages. Our next stop is Douz, the “Gateway of the Sahara”, another ancient oasis town surround by vast expanses of sand dunes. The final leg of our journey takes us to the legendary Island of Djerba, where we will spend the first of two nights. Our drive takes us through one of the main olive growing regions of the country; Tunisia has over 65 million olive trees (6 for each inhabitant!) and is currently the 4th largest exporter of olive oil in the world. We stop at Matmata, where the inhabitants live in rock-hewn dwellings (“troglodyte” homes), some of which are over 400 years old. We will visit the pit dwelling of a local family who will happily show us around. We will also stop to see the cave home which appeared in the first Star Wars film (1977) and was later converted into Hotel Sidi Driss. Overnight in Djerba.

Day 07: The Isle of Djerba
We will spend the morning exploring the sites of this splendid island. Originally settled by the Phoenicians, the isle of Djerba is the mythical place where Odysseus encountered the Lotus Eaters during his journey back home from Troy. Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans, Vandals, Normans, Arabs, Spaniards, and Ottoman Turks — all have come to Djerba and left their footprint. Historically Djerba has been known for its sponge fishing and agriculture — here we can find olive trees which are over 1000 years old. The island today is one of Tunisia’s most famous resorts, with its small villages, charming towns, and 125 km of sandy beaches. Today’s inhabitants of Djerba are culturally distinct from mainland Tunisians, and are proud of their customs, dress and dialect. Our first visit is the excellent ethnographic Museum of Patrimonie, which celebrates the island’s peoples and traditions. Here we will see displays of marriage festivals and traditional wedding dresses from various parts of the country, traditional costumes of the island, circumcision ceremonies, household and agricultural implements, and displays of typical arts of weaving, calligraphy, jewelry and metalwork. We proceed to the center of Guellala, the pottery producing center of the island where we stop to see the kilns and workshops. Next is El Ghriba (“The Miracle”) synagogue: one of the oldest synagogues and most important Jewish pilgrimage sites in the world. Djerba is home to one of the world’s most ancient Jewish communities: tradition states that they arrived here after the First Destruction of the Temple by Nebuchadnezzar in 566 BC. This holy synagogue is fascinating for its historic and spiritual importance, as well as for its distinctive style of architecture (a marvelous blend of Jewish, Tunisian, Maghrebian and Sephardic elements). We proceed to the main town Houmt Souq, where first we shall stop to see the medieval fort, Borj el Kebir; this was the scene of a bloody conflict in 1560 between the forces of Dragut, the Barbary corsair, and Philip II of Spain. In town, we will explore the fruit and vegetable markets, watch the excitement at the daily fish auctions, and wander the narrow lanes and souqs. You will have free time to explore more of this charming town. Overnight in Djerba.

Day 08: Djerba – Sfax
Our drive continues to the coastal city of Sfax where we arrrive in time for a walk though the medina. This is the second largest city in Tunisia; today Sfax a major commercial and manufacturing centre (mainly of olive oil, almonds, phosphates and textiles) with very little tourism. Inside the massive 9th century ramparts of the old walled city, is the country’s finest “living and working” medina. Overnight in Sfax.

Day 09: Sfax – El Djem – Monastir – Tunis
This morning we’ll walk through the medina of Sfax; part of the Blacksmith’s souq was featured in the film, ‘The English Patient.’ We will do a walk through the historic lanes, markets and workshops before continuing inland to El Djem (ancient Thysdrus). Our first visit is the excellent Archaeological Museum, with its splendid collection of floor mosaics from the villas of the wealthiest inhabitants of El Djem. Just behind the museum is the House of Africa, an opulent villa covering over 3000 sq m which was found in the center of town, dismantled and moved here in its entirety. The villa is named after one of its excellent fine floor mosaics depicting the Goddess of Africa (the only mosaic of its kind in the world). The sudden appearance of the massive Roman Amphitheatre is an extraordinary sight. With a capacity of 30,000 spectators, it rises 3 stories above the surrounding plains — though smaller than the Colosseum in Rome, it is in many ways more impressive due to its excellent state of preservation. It was built during the reigns of the (usurper) Emperors Gordion I and his son, Gordian II, both of whom reigned for only a few weeks before being defeated by the legions sent from Rome. Wild beast fights, gladiatorial combats, circuses and games were held here. We climb up to the upper tiers for excellent views of the arena and surrounding countryside, before descending to the basement to see the chambers where scenery, gladiators, prisoners and wild animals were kept. Wild animals were hoisted by a sophisticated (if not theatrical) system of elevators and pulleys into the arena to the delight of the spectators.Returning to the coast, we go To Monastir to see the 8th century ribat, a kind of fortified Islamic monastery, after which the city is named. The Ribat of Monastir affords wonderful views of the city and the sea. North African ribats were built when the inhabitants were threatened by invading European armies; they served not only a military but religious purpose as well, as fortresses and places of prayer and study for devout soldiers. This spectacular ribat served as a backdrop in numerous films, including Monty Python’s ‘Life of Brian’ and Zeffirelli’s ‘Jesus of Nazareth.’ Overnight in Tunis.

Day 10: Departure
Departure from Tunis.

Upon arrival you will meet our driver and guide at the airport to welcome you, you will transfer to your hotel for accommodation

Light the wood fire with the team of camel drivers and prepare dinner in a Bedouin atmosphere. Dinner and overnight at the camp.

Day 03: Start of the Caravan
Beginning of the caravan and departure to our campsite for the second night. A hike at your own pace for two or three hours during which you will enjoy the landscapes. Whenever you feel tired, your faithful friend, the dromedary will lower itself to transport you.

Stop for lunch at mid-afternoon. Continue for 2 hours of walking between the dunes before sunset. you will set up the tent tents in the middle of the desert where the only noise you will hear will be the songs of the camel drivers and their stories.

Once the first rays of the sun penetrate your tents you will be woken up with a head already full of memories of the previous evening and a smile drawn on your faces. (Faces that will be full of sands). The camel drivers would have already lit the fire and prepared the table for a delicious breakfast. Our daily program will start and we will follow the rhythm of our camels….

continue to El Biben, where you will set up the tents, Saharan vigil and overnight in peace.

You will have taken the rhythm and learned the morning habits of the camel drivers: install breakfast on the dunes, prepare the sand bread and meet around the fire to eat. Like every day, a well-defined pace of walking in the footsteps of dromedaries, except that today it will be a little faster to finally reach the camp and enjoy a good shower.
Day 01: Tunis
Salam! Welcome to Tunis, capital of Tunisia. Meet-assist at airport & transfer to hotel.
Overnight at hotel.

Day 02: Tunis
Start your day by travelling to the seaside town of Sidi Bou Said, where the white walls and blue shutters of the seaside village make for incredible photo opportunities. Wander the cobbled streets lined with cafes and local artisanal shops, and maybe try the famous local bomboloni (fried doughnut with sugar). Continue to the ninth-century World Heritage-listed Carthage to see monuments like the vast Antonine baths, the Roman amphitheatre and the Punic ports. Next up is the National Bardo Museum, second only to the Egyptian museum of Cairo in terms of the breadth and depth of its collections. Enjoy lunch in Sidi Bou Said, then make tracks for the Tunis Medina, the largest medina in North Africa. Walk through the twisting alleyways with your leader, passing shops overflowing with goods and visiting the Grand Souq des Chechias, where Tunisia’s iconic blood-red hats are made. In the evening return to your hotel. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 03: Kairouan
Make tracks for Dougga, one of the best-preserved Roman cities in Africa. Stop en route in Testour, where the architecture tells the story of the Muslim and Jewish refugees who arrived in the 16th–17th centuries. Explore Dougga with your leader. Once capital of both the Phoenician and Roman states, Dougga boasts many imposing monuments, including a second-century theatre, the Capitoline Temple, and the 2200-year-old Nubian Mausoleum of Ateban. Wonder at both the monuments and how quiet and tourist-free the site is. Hit the road for a final stretch to Kairouan, your destination for the evening.

Day 04: Tozeur
After breakfast, head out to explore Kairouan, the fourth holiest site in Islam (after Mecca, Medina and Jerusalem). Discover more about the city with a visit the ninth-century Great Mosque of Oqba Ibn Nafi, an important example of Islamic architecture. Many of the columns throughout the complex were taken from the ruins of cities like Carthage. On a walk through the serpentine streets of the local medina, pass the souqs and get a tasty sample of makroudh (a traditional local pastry stuffed with dates) and learn about the traditional trade of local women – rug making. Continue to Tozeur for the evening.

Day 05: Tozeur
Explore the oasis town of Tozeur, which is lined by extensive palm groves and was historically an important stop on the Bedouin caravan route. Check out the Eden Palm, a museum set in a beautiful building which tracks the history of dates and the uses for the palm tree. Later stroll through the 14th-century medina and admire the striking architecture and restored brick work. The rest of the day is free for you to explore at your leisure. Maybe visit the Dar Charait Museum, an ethnographic museum depicting scenes of traditional Tunisian life.

Day 06: Douz Sahara
This morning hit the mountains on a 4WD tour of surrounding oases, which film buffs may recognise as the setting for scenes from ‘The English Patient’. See the mountain oasis of Tamerza, along with Mides and Chebika. You’ll also see set pieces left over from the filming of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. Continue to Douz (approximately 2.5 hours), travelling across Chott El Jerid, the largest salt lake in the Sahara Desert. Take in the green and pink hues of the lake as it streams by. Arrive in Douz and meet your camel drivers. Get a brief lesson in desert etiquette then begin your trek into the Sahara (approximately 3 hours). While the journey to the camp is on foot, the camels will carry your luggage and assist anyone who is tired. Arrive at the camp just before sunset. Enjoy dinner and settle in for a peaceful night under the stars.

Day 07: Douz
Enjoy breakfast while you gaze out at the undulating dunes of the Sahara. Spend the morning in this incredible landscape before the trek back to Douz (approximately 3 hours). Local Berber guides accompany you during the trek to teach you some secrets of life in the desert. Arrive in Douz at nightfall.

Day 08: Matmata
Continue to Matmata, stopping en route in Toujane to visit the ruins of an old Kasbah, a centuries-old olive press and other artefacts. Arrive in Matmata and explore some of the local dwellings, underground houses that might look familiar as the setting of Luke Skywalker’s home in Star Wars’. The ingenious homes are a joy to explore, though in recent years migration to cities has seen many fall into disrepair. Embark on an approximately 3.5-hour hike through the rocky, mountainous desert and snap some incredible photos. Your accommodation tonight is in a unique cave building.

Day 09: Mahdia
Head to Mahdia, stopping en route at the spectacular Roman amphitheatre of El Jem. This third-century structure resembles Rome’s Colosseum and rises above the surrounding city in impressive fashion. Arrive in seaside Mahdia, a relaxed port town, in the afternoon. Perhaps head out to the 16th-century Ottoman fort or the waterfront cemetery. Have your camera charged and ready for action.

Day 10: Mahdia
This morning check out the whitewashed local medina, then head out to explore the artisan village of Moknine. Visit the folk museum to see some of the fine ceramics and jewellery produced here. Decide as a group whether to stay for lunch before continuing to Monastir. In Monastir explore the seafront ribat (fortress), which was originally a defensive fort built to withstand Christian invasions, as well as important centre of Islamic learning. Climb 90 steep steps to the ribat’s watchtower for panoramic views of the city. Return to Mahdia in the afternoon and enjoy free time. Maybe treat yourself to some good old-fashioned Mediterranean fun and relax on the beach. Return to Mahdia in the afternoon and maybe treat yourself to some R&R and hit the beaches for some good old Mediterranean style fun.

Day 11: Tunis
Return to Tunis, with a few sightseeing stops en route. First up is the city of Nabeul, famous for its ceramic workshops as the local clay is perfect for crafting delicate coquetry. You’ll have a little time to look around and perhaps pick up a souvenir or two. Continue to the small fishing town of Kelibia, where the streets are busy with workshops and a striking castle fort dominates the skyline. Next, stop at the World Heritage-listed Kerkouane, the ruins of a Phoenician town where artefacts have been uncovered from over 2300 years ago. The last stop is the mountain of Haouaria, which sits in a beautiful landscape overlooking Cape Bon. Arrive in Tunisia in the evening and transfer to hotel.

Day 12: Depart Tunis
Final departure transfer to airport for flight back to home.

Day 01: Arrival Tunis
Arrive at Tunis–Carthage Airport, where our representative and driver will assist and transfer you directly to the hotel in Tunis, the capital city of this beautiful country and its greatest metropolitan area. Enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure, relaxing or exploring the beautiful surroundings. In the evening indulge in a delicious dinner. Overnight in Tunis.

Day 02: Tunis – Sidi Bou Said – Carthage – Hammamet
Begin your day with breakfast at the hotel and a transfer to the picturesque Sidi Bou. This charming village is known for its indigo blue windows and doors, white walls and, set at an altitude of over 100 metres high, it features dazzling views over the Mediterranean Sea. Your next stop is at the neighbouring archaeological site of Carthage, located on a magnificent coastline. Although the ancient city was destroyed by the Romans, this UNESCO World Heritage Site features excavations of homes, baths and sewage systems. The other significant site in the area is the Carthage amphitheatre, built towards the first century AD and later rebuilt by the Romans. The theatre today hosts some 30,000 visitors at the yearly International Music Festival of Carthage. After a tasty lunch, head towards downtown Tunis to visit the Bardo National Museum, located in an old Beylical castle in the middle of the old city of Tunis, and renowned for its rich collection of mosaics. Continue with a visit and free time in the ancient Medina of Tunis before you head to the Hammamet area to check in to your hotel. Lunch and dinner is included. Overnight in Hammamet area

Day 03: Hammamet – Dougga – Kairaoun
Have a delicious breakfast at the hotel before you head towards another one of Tunisia’s rich archaeological sites. Dougga is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, awarded for containing the best-preserved small Roman town in North Africa. The site contains the heritage of a variety of civilisations, such as Roman, Punic and Byzantine. Its most significant monuments are the exquisite Roman Capitol and Theatre. After a local lunch, transfer to Kairouan, the ‘capital of Islam’ in Tunisia. On arrival, check in to your hotel. Lunch and dinner is included. Overnight in Kairouan

Day 04: Kairaoun – Tozeur
After breakfast, take a walking tour with your guide through the old Medina of Kairouan. Visit the Great Mosque of Kairouan, located in the middle of the Medina and built by the Arab general Uqba Ibn Nafi in 670 AD. The site attracts thousands of local and international visitors for its magnificent architectural and spiritual value. Then visit the impressive ancient engineering site of the Aghlabid basins, where two large water basins and a few cisterns have survived the passing of centuries as they helped conserve and distribute decades of scarce drinking water resources. After lunch, head south via Gafsa to arrive at Tozeur, the city of palm trees. Lunch and dinner is included. Overnight in Tozeur

Day 05: Tozeur
Start with a delectable breakfast at your hotel and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure, relaxing, exploring the surroundings on your own, or joining an optional tour. Lunch and dinner is included. Overnight in Tozeur

Day 06: Tozeur – Chott el Djerid – Douz
After breakfast, on the way out of Tozeur, visit the centre of this small town and spot the intricate architectural designs on the façades of the houses. Then drive through the biggest salt lake in the country, Chott el Djerid, admiring the outstanding never-ending view of white and pink mirages, also used as a filming site for Star Wars. On your arrival to Douz, the ‘gateway to the Sahara’, indulge in a delicious lunch and spend the rest of the day at leisure. Lunch and dinner is included. Overnight in Douz

Day 07: Douz – Matmata – Sousse
Have a tasty breakfast at the hotel and head towards the old village of Matmata. The area contains one of the best preserved, still inhabited troglodyte houses, carved by Tunisian Berbers in the middle of the surrounding earth. A filming site of the Star Wars movie is also open for visitors in Matmata. The next stop is at the village of El Djem, home of the Roman amphitheatre of El Djem, the third largest Roman amphitheatre in the world, built around 18 centuries ago, and exceptionally well-preserved up to this day. The site was mainly used for spectator events, namely gladiator battles. After a local lunch in El Djem, continue to the Mediterranean town of Sousse for your last night in the country. Lunch and dinner is included. Overnight in Sousse

Day 08: Departure Sousse
Begin your last day with a delightful breakfast at the hotel. Then transferring to the airport for flight back to home.

Day 01: Arrival Tunis – Hammamet
Arrive at Tunis–Carthage Airport, where your professional guide and driver will greet you and direct you to the transfer to Hammamet, one of the main coastal cities of this beautiful country. Enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure, relaxing in the hotel or exploring the beautiful surroundings in Yasmine Hammamet. End the day with dinner at your hotel. Overnight in Hammamet.

Day 02: Hammamet – Kairouan – Tozeur
Begin your day with breakfast at the hotel and a transfer to Kairouan. Upon arrival at the holy city, take a walking tour with your guide through the old Medina. Visit the Great Mosque of Kairouan, located in the middle of the Medina and built by the Arab general Uqba Ibn Nafi in 670 AD. The site attracts thousands of local and international visitors for its magnificent architectural and spiritual value. Then visit the impressive ancient engineering site of the Aghlabid basins, where two large water basins and a few cisterns have survived the passing of the centuries as they helped conserve and distribute decades of scarce drinking water resources. Lunch is included and will be in Kairouan. Then head down south to Tozeur and enjoy the evening at your hotel. Overnight in Tozeur.

Day 03: Tozeur – Chott Djerid – Douz
Start with breakfast at your hotel and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure, relaxing, exploring the surroundings on your own, or joining an optional tour. Lunch is included. Then, back in Tozeur, drive through the biggest salt lake in the country, Chott el Djerid, admiring the outstanding never-ending view of white and pink mirages, also used as a filming site for Star Wars. On your arrival to Douz, the ‘gateway to the Sahara’, enjoy the rest of the day at leisure. Overnight in Douz.

Day 04: Douz – Matmata – El Djem – Sousse
Have a tasty breakfast at the hotel and head towards the old village of Matmata. The area contains one of the best-preserved, still inhabited troglodyte houses, carved by Tunisian Berbers in the middle of the surrounding earth. Overnight in Sousse.

Day 05: Sousse – Tunis
After breakfast, your guide will accompany you to the beautiful Port El Kantaoui harbour for a quick visit before you head back to Sidi Bousaid, in the capital of Tunis. This charming village is known for its indigo blue windows and doors and white walls. At an altitude of over 100 metres, it features dazzling views over the Mediterranean Sea. Your next stop is the neighbouring archaeological site of Carthage, located on a magnificent coastline. Although the ancient city was destroyed by the Romans, this UNESCO-listed World Heritage Site features excavations of homes, baths and sewage systems. Overnight in Tunis.

Day 06: Departure Tunis
Begin your last day with one last breakfast at the hotel then, depending on your flight time transferring to the airport.
