Day 01: Arrive Livingstone, Zambia
On arrival you will be met at the Livingstone Airport and taken to your accommodations. The lodge offers wonderful views of the Zambezi River, and a wide range of activities.

Day 02: Livingstone, Zambia
Today you can relax or participate in your choice of the activities offered at the lodge. Take a game drive in the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park to see white rhino, elephant, buffalo and giraffe; enjoy a guided walking tour of incredible Victoria Falls, a World Heritage Site; or visit the local Simonga village on a cultural village tour. Tonight relax on a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River.

Day 03: Livingstone To South Luangwa National Park, Zambia
Today fly via Lusaka to Mfuwe, then drive to the Puku Ridge Camp in the remote and wildlife-rich South Luangwa National Park. Sitting on a hillside, your luxury tent accommodations offer impressive 180-degree views of the floodplain. Your private deck area overlooks a small waterhole, a perfect vantage point to watch life in the African bush unfold. Tonight enjoy a night game drive or walking safari. Your expert guide will help you watch for leopards, hyenas, owls, foraging hippos, honey badgers and more.

Day 04: South Luangwa National Park, Zambia
South Luangwa National Park is 3,500 square miles of one of the greatest wildlife sanctuaries in the world. With miombo woodland, open grasslands and stands of African ebony along the Luangwa River. There are more than 60 different animal species and 400 bird species. The park is well known for having large herds of elephants and antelope, as well as hippos, crocodile, zebras, baboons and the Thornicroft’s Giraffe. Enjoy two days of day and night wildlife viewing beyond compare. There are game drives on 4×4 vehicles and unique ‘walking safaris.’ Pioneered here in South Luangwa National Park, ‘walking safaris’ are the best way to intimately experience the African wilderness. A safari ranger guides you from bush camp to bush camp, unveiling the subtleties of the land which is hard to experience unless you are on foot.

Day 05: South Luangwa To Lower Zambezi National Park, Zambia
This morning fly from Mfuwe to an airstrip in the Lower Zambezi and then transfer by boat to the Zambezi Kulefu Camp. Located deep in the game-rich Lower Zambezi National Park, this intimate eco-friendly safari camp is secluded among tall Riverine trees overlooking the legendary Zambezi River. Your spacious tented room offers an amazing view of the mighty Zambezi, and the camp swimming pool is right on the riverbank. This location has a high concentration of wildlife and offers excellent game viewing opportunities.

Day 06: Lower Zambezi National Park, Zambia
Enjoy a full day of relaxation and game viewing taking a guided 4×4 Take a canoe safari in Lower Zambezi National Park vehicle, boat or walking safaris both day and night. Watch for lion, leopard, hyena, elephant, hippo, aardvark and other big game. If you are feeling adventurous, take a breathtaking canoe trip down one of the river channels to view game from the waters edge, or try your hand at tiger fishing. In the evening enjoy a private sundowner cruise on the river.

Day 07: Depart Lower Zambezi & Lusaka, Zambia
Enjoy morning at the camp before your transfer to the airstrip and flight to Lusaka Airport. Depart Lusaka for your flight home or on to your next destination.

Day 01: Arrival in Zambia & Transfer to South Luangwa National Park

You’ll fly into Lusaka Airport, then take a scheduled domestic flight to Mfuwe, where you’ll be met by our representative. Once on the ground, introduced and refreshed, you’ll make your way to your accommodation at South Luangwa National Park via a private transfer.

You’ll stay three nights at Flatdogs Camp, located right on the border of the national park. This is the closest safari camp to the main gate, providing guests with the ideal base for wilderness exploration and wildlife watching. Choose from safari tents, treehouses, chalets and even a “crocodile nest” with private deck and pool – the perfect place to relax after a long day of game drives and safari activities.

Flatdogs is also noted for its commitment to responsible travel values, especially community and conservation issues. The property boasts a carbon neutral certificate as one of the first carbon neutral operators in Zambia and supports various community activities, such as local business start-ups and education.

Day 02: Exploring South Luangwa National Park
Today, your exploration of South Luangwa National Park truly begins. Start with a morning game drive in an open viewing vehicle, from which you’ll be able to see a variety of mammals, from big game to tiny critters, including birds, insects and even fish, at the Luangwa River.

Sadly, South Luangwa is no longer a Big Five safari destination, having lost its rhino population in the 1980s. However, there are endemic species and sub-species to look out for, including Thornicroft’s giraffe (noted for its beautiful markings), Cookson’s wildebeest and Crawshay’s zebra.

In the winter months, you can take part in All Day Drives, where you’ll be provided with a picnic lunch. You’ll be accompanied by a knowledgeable and qualified safari guide, plus a National Park scout, combining game drives with walking to stretch your legs.

Day 03: Exploring South Luangwa National Park
The Luangwa Valley is home to around 100 species of mammal and 400 species of bird, however, much of Zambia’s wildlife is nocturnal. South Luangwa is one of the few parks in Africa that allows night drives, so you’ll have the chance to see creatures such as big cats when they’re on the prowl at night.

Relax in the day by the Flatdogs pool, enjoying views out to South Luangwa National Park. As there are no fences, you’ll be visited by elephants, bushbuck, giraffe, impala, hippo and puku. After dark, head into the wilderness with your guide to look for predators such as lions, leopards, spotted hyenas and endangered African wild dogs (also known as painted dogs or painted wolves), and observe their night-time hunting practices.

If you’re feeling safari fatigue, you can also visit many of the community and conservation projects which Flatdogs supports, such as those in the nearby Mfuwe village, or go souvenir shopping at local artisan workshops in the area.

Day 04: Transfer to Nkonzi, South Luangwa National Park
Today, you’ll leave Flatdogs and head deep inside South Luangwa to explore a remote region of the park, with a four-night stay at Nkonzi Camp. This secluded owner-run safari lodge has a much more rustic feel; the four open-air en-suite safari tents include hot water bucket showers and flushable toilets – big luxuries out in the bush!

Relax in the evening with a meal made from fresh, locally-sourced ingredients, under a thick grove of shady trees. Get off the grid and watch some bush TV, also known as the roaring camp fire. After dark, look up for stunning starscapes created by the lack of light pollution in this remote area of the national park. Nkonzi will truly bring you back to nature.

Day 05: Exploring South Luangwa National Park
Depending on the weather, you may wish to participate in Nkonzi’s (and Zambia’s) speciality – walking safaris. This activity offers a completely different perspective to a game drive, providing more detailed information about the ecology of the national park (South Luangwa is also home to 2,000 species of plants) and the opportunity to track game using traditional techniques.

Track Zambia’s big game on foot by using spoor, listening to birds and other animals, which alert others to the presence of predators. These walking safaris are best taken in the cool mornings and can last for up to three or four hours, with highly knowledgeable guides who can provide a truly authentic bush walking experience.

Day 06: Exploring South Luangwa National Park
Nkonzi’s remote location offers easy access to the Mfuwe bridge area of South Luangwa, as well as the more difficult to reach areas in the north. Or, you can stay in the Mushilashi-Luwi area, where there is always incredible game viewing to be found.

Morning game drives start around 6am, but the early morning wake-up call is worth it to see some of the park’s wildlife at its most active, plus a tea and freshly-baked biscuit stop helps too. The soft morning light and dewy dawn are perfect for photographers.

Day 07: Exploring South Luangwa National Park
Afternoon and night game drives offer a completely different safari experience. Departing around 4pm, as the day is cooling down, you’ll be able to spot the park’s predators heading out to hunt. Enjoy a sundowner cocktail at a scenic sunset spot before continuing your game drive safari in the dark.

South Luangwa is one of only a few national parks on the continent to offer night game drives, where you’ll be able to see nocturnal creatures such as civet and genet, as well as owls and other bird species.

Day 08: Transfer to Lower Zambezi National Park

Today, you’ll leave South Luangwa for Lower Zambezi National Park. First, you’ll take a road transfer to Mfuwe, then a scheduled domestic flight, before a final road transfer to your next accommodation, Mvuu Lodge.

Sitting on the banks of the beautiful Zambezi River, Mvuu Lodge (known as “the place of the hippo”), is a luxury tented safari camp located in the game-rich Chiawa area, just outside Lower Zambezi National Park and opposite the UNESCO World Heritage site of Mana Pools.

Day 09: Exploring Lower Zambezi National Park
Explore the Chiawa game management area and then head into Lower Zambezi National Park for sightings of kudu, impala, buffalo, elephants (both single bulls and herds), lions, leopards, hyena and even more elusive creatures such as genet, serval and pangolin.

Due to the surrounding terrain of escarpment, wetland, bushveld and riverine, a diverse collection of birdlife can also be found here, with species such as parrots, owls, vultures, hornbills, bee eaters and kingfishers calling the area home, amongst many more.

Day 10: Exploring Lower Zambezi National Park
Take advantage of the mighty Zambezi River with water activities such as boat trips, canoeing and fishing. A river cruise makes for a relaxing safari experience, watching animals come to drink at the water’s edge, as you unwind with a gin and tonic in hand.

If you’re feeling more adventurous, pick up a paddle and drift down the river, exploring at your own pace, navigating small islands and islets, and getting up-close to colourful bird species. Choose from a half-day guided canoe adventure, a full day, or even overnight.

Day 11: Exploring Lower Zambezi National Park
The Zambezi is also known for its exceptional fishing, as trophy tigerfish weighing up to nine kilograms have been landed and recorded in this region. With long sand beds, shallow flood plains and deep rocky pools, you’ll also be likely to encounter bream, chessa, nkupi and vundu.

A fishing expedition starts early and if you’re keen to hook a toothy tigerfish, then you’ll start with catching bait fish, such as chessa, first. You’ll fish until around 10am, then return to Mvuu for brunch and relaxation during the hottest part of the day, recommencing around 3pm. Fish species are prolific in this stretch of the Zambezi, so you’ll most likely be toasting your success with a sundowner as your boat heads back to camp.

Day 12: Transfer to Livingstone (Victoria Falls)

Today, you’ll leave wildlife and wilderness behind, and head to Livingstone, the home of Victoria Falls. You’ll start with a road transfer to Jeki, then catch a scheduled domestic flight to Livingstone, before taking another road transfer, following the Zambezi upstream to your accommodation, Chundukwa – one of the best lodges at Victoria Falls.

Chundukwa River Lodge is an authentic safari-style lodge, inspired by Zambian culture and facing the mighty river that feeds the falls. The property is comprised of five stilted chalets and a family house, offering a private and intimate riverside setting, blending in with the natural landscape; décor and furniture are tastefully made using recycled wood, metal and sustainable reeds.

Day 13: Exploring Livingstone (Victoria Falls)
Zambia’s Victoria Falls, also known by its local name Mosi Oa Tunya (“The Smoke That Thunders”) is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. What you decide to do at this incredible site depends on when you travel to Victoria Falls, as river levels dictate which activities are safe.

However, with such a wide variety of activities at Victoria Falls, there’s always something to see or do. Choose from scenic and spray-filled river walks, breath-taking helicopter tours, or an exhilarating dip in the Devil’s Pool – a deep, natural pool created by erosion, with a natural barrier that allows you to swim to the waterfall’s edge without getting swept over.

Day 14: Exploring Livingstone (Victoria Falls)
The historical town of Livingstone, named for Scottish explorer David Livingstone who is thought to be the first European to see Victoria Falls in 1855, is also worth a visit. The town lies around 10 kilometres from Victoria Falls Bridge. The wide, tree-lined streets and colonial architecture are pretty, but still retain a small-town African vibe. A visit to The Livingstone Museum provides more context on local history.

You might also like to explore the bush on horseback, with a guided ride along the Zambezi, organised by Chundukwa River Lodge. Choose from one-to-two-hour river rides, half-day trails with a picnic break and overnight horse riding and camping experiences.

Day 15: Departure from Zambia
Your Classic Zambia Safari & Victoria Falls holiday comes to an end. After checking out of Chundukwa, you’ll take a road transfer to Livingstone Airport, then a scheduled domestic flight onto Lusaka Airport, in plenty of time for your onward international journey.

Day 01: Land in Lusaka & transfer to South Luangwa National Park
Upon landing in Lusaka, the capital of Zambia, take a domestic flight to Mfuwe from where a private transfer will take you to South Luangwa National Park. You’ll be staying at the luxurious Time + Tide Luwi, around a two-hour drive from Mfuwe Airport.

Time + Tide Luwi is a remote camp located on the banks of the Luwi River, with no other camps for miles around. Relax in the open air lounge enjoying the smell of African jasmine and listening to the sounds of the tranquil river. Welcome to Zambia.

Day 02: Explore South Luangwa National Park
Rise at the crack of dawn to start the day with a morning safari before the temperatures get too hot. The camp’s award-winning safari guides will point out prides of lions, rare Thornicroft’s giraffes (endemic to Zambia), huge herds of elephant, a colourful array of birdlife, bathing pods of hippos and much more. South Luangwa is particularly noted for its excellent leopard sightings.

Day 03: South Luangwa National Park safari continues
Head deeper into the national park, to Time + Tide Kakuli, which comprises cosy suites perched above the Luangwa River. Hang out on your private deck and spot big game favourites wandering in and out of view. See hippos and crocs lurking in the water and keep your eyes peeled for the colourful feathers of carmine bee-eaters.

Day 04: Explore South Luangwa National Park
South Luangwa is one of the few national parks in the whole of Africa to offer night game drives, which you will enjoy during your stay in the national park. A game drive after dark provides you with the opportunity to encounter Zambia’s nocturnal wildlife, especially elusive leopards and other big cats that come alive once the sun goes down.

Day 05: South Luangwa National Park continues
Explore the national park and see a variety of wildlife. Guiding you through the reserve will be experienced tour guides who will make sure that you see the best that this place has to offer.

Day 06: Bush walking in South Luangwa National Park
Head out on an intrepid bush walk to discover a level of detail you simply can’t experience from the safety and comfort of a safari vehicle. Feel your sense heightened as you wade through the bush, learning about the park’s complex ecosystems as well as the techniques that professional safari guides and park rangers use to track wildlife.

Day 07: Last day in South Luangwa National Park
You South Luangwa comes to an end today, but we recommend that you book our optional activities to make the most of your stay. The activities include birding safaris, a boat trip down the Luangwa and a visit to Kawaza village to meet the Kunda people. Learn more about their way of life and see the amazing work done by Conservation South Luangwa, a local conservation initiative that is known for its anti-poaching efforts.

Day 08: South Luangwa National Park – Kafue National Park
Transfer back to Mfuwe and board a domestic flight to Lusaka, from where you’ll catch our private transfer to Kafue National Park, Zambia’s oldest and largest national park. Tonight, you will stay in Musekese Camp, which is located in a remote area of the national park. Your accommodation will be a charming thatched-roof chalet.

Day 09: Explore Kafue National Park
Feel free to explore the surrounding area and see herds of elephants, bush pigs and rare roan antelopes.

Day 10: Kafue National Park game drive
Take a game drive around some of Kafue’s best wildlife spots, such as the Busanga Plains, where you can see antelopes, elephants, zebras and lions. Rare species to look out for include sables and African wild dogs, as well as the elusive cheetah.

Watch hippos splashing in Lake Itezhi-Tezhi and look to the skies to see various bird species that live in the trees around the Busanga Swamp, such as the African finfoot, half-collard kingfisher and the African skimmer.

Day 11: Kafue National Park continues
See more of the oldest national park in Zambia. In the north of this national park is the fertile Busanga Plains while in the more remote south lies the Nanzhila Plains.

Day 12: Kafue National Park – Lusaka and departure
Your Zambia wildlife adventure ends today. Head back to Lusaka airport for flight back home.

Take a morning or evening game drive to explore different regions of the park and participate in a walking safari to see more of the national park and its residents.

Day 03: South Luangwa National Park safari continues
Heading deeper into the park to your next accommodation, Ten Tena. Buried deep inside the exclusive Nsefu Sector of South Luangwa, this luxury safari camp is the flagship property of the famed Robin Pope Safaris, offering travellers insights into a restricted section of the national park.

Day 04: South Luangwa National Park & Kawaza village trip
Spend your last full day in South Luangwa with more game drives and bush walks then take a trip to a Kawaza village to learn more about the tribal textiles produced by local craftsmen. These textiles are painted by hands with designs inspired by the region’s wildlife and they make for fantastic souvenirs. If you’re travelling with kids, a great place to visit is the local wildlife education centre.

Day 05: South Luangwa National Park – Lower Zambezi National Park
Catch a domestic flight from Mfuwe to Jeki via Lusaka, followed by a private transfer to Lower Zambezi National Park. Your accommodation in Lower Zambezi will be the five-star Potato Bush Camp, a luxury safari property comprising just three spacious tents complete with private plunge pools.

Take a night game drive after sunset to see nocturnal wildlife such as African wildcats, genets, civets, honey badgers, porcupines and, maybe, even the rare pangolin.

Day 06: Explore Lower Zambezi National Park
Explore the Zambezi River during canoe safaris, boat trips, fishing excursions and sunset river cruises. With “floating sundowners,” you can relax on the deck of the boat, gin and tonic in hand, watching bathing pods of hippos and looking out for lurking crocodiles. You might even see elephants splashing in the waters, or crossing the river to Zimbabwe’s Mana Pools on the other side.

Day 07: Lower Zambezi National Park continues
Don’t miss the chance to explore the Lower Zambezi region on foot as part of an intrepid walking safari. Everything changes once you leave the safety of the vehicle as you’ll be treated to a unique wildlife watching and safari experience that you miss while watching wild animals from the backseat of a jeep.

Among other things, you will discover tiny lizards and insects that call this national park home, learn about plant life and ecosystems and examine footprints and scat to understand how rangers track wildlife.

Day 08: Lower Zambezi National Park – Lusaka Airport (flight)
Your Zambia safari adventure comes to a close today. Enjoy a private transfer back to Jeki from where a domestic flight will drop you at Lusaka’s international airport. With a taste of two of the country’s best safari destinations, you’ll back to home.

Day 01: Arrive Lusaka; transfer to the Zambezi River.
After the arrival in the early afternoon, we transfer to the Zambezi River. Most of this road transfer to the start of the safari is on tar road with the last section of the journey being along a bush dirt track making a change to a 4WD vehicle is necessary. Depending on the time we arrive at the Zambezi River we will cross over to our evening campsite on Nyamumba island by canoe or motor boat . Overnight in camp.

Day 02-04: Nyamumba island 
Three days canoeing and wildlife watching on the Zambezi River, camping on remote islands. We have three days canoeing with early starts as it is often better to canoe in the early hours when it is not so hot, and more importantly, when the easterly head wind is at its weakest. The pace is gentle to allow us to make the most of wildlife viewing opportunities. We look out for elephant feeding on the banks, basking crocodiles and numerous colourful bird species including the magnificent African Fish eagle. The list of species we spot may include buffalo, baboon, Vervet monkey, Pied kingfisher, Goliath heron, Carmine Bee eaters and maybe even lion! We will frequently pass pods of hippo basking in the deeper water who will no doubt be keeping an eye on us! There are few signs of human habitation throughout our time on the river. Lunches and breakfasts are either taken on islands or on the banks of the river. Accommodation: Overnight in camp.

Day 05: Nyamumba island – Chiawa 
Morning canoeing; afternoon game walk and drive in Game Management Area. We canoe to the Chiawa Game Management Area, which is situated 18 kms from the Lower Zambezi National Park just opposite the Mana Pools, where we spend the night in our fly camp based on mainland. This is an area rich in wildlife and is renowned for the numerous elephant sightings. It is also home to warthog, waterbuck, impala, kudu, and rare Samango monkeys, with many riverene bird species including the Lilac-breasted roller. We have an afternoon game walk or game drive through the reserve where we hope to spot other nocturnal species such as genet, civet, hyena, porcupine, aardvark and if really lucky, the elusive leopard. Day 06: Canoe to Lower Zambezi National Park
Morning game walk; afternoon game drive back to camp. Today we canoe from the Chiawa Game Management Area into the Lower Zambezi National Park (approximately 8km downstream). We have a morning game walk with a guide, and then have lunch in the park under the shade of the trees or on the banks of the Zambezi River. After lunch we will be taken on a game drive through the park back to our fly camp on the banks of the river in Game Management Area. If river water levels are too high in the winter months (May – July), due to excess water being released from Lake Kariba, we may use a boat transfer as certain road crossing may be flooded. Accommodation: Overnight in camp.

Day 07: Transfer to our riverside camp.
We are transferred by road from our bush camp in the Game Management Area to Zambezi Breezes today. Should river conditions necessitate we may use a boat transfer back to Zambezi Breezes where required.Accommodation.

Day 08: Transfer to Lusaka; end.
Final departure transfer to airport for flight back to home.
